Gwithian and Praa Sands Surf School

Global Boarders is the only Surf School to have locations on Cornwall's north coast (Gwithian) and south coast (Praa Sands). The lesson location will be confirmed the day before the lesson/s ensuring our guests are surfing where the waves are best.

Can I choose my surf lesson location?

During July and August all surfing bookings will automatically be located to Gwithian due to Praa Sands having mostly calm / flat waves during the summertime. This happens because Praa Sands is on the south coast and therefore misses most of the summertime swells. Gwithian faces directly towards the Atlantic ocean and is highly regarded as one of the best beaches in Cornwall for summer swells / waves.

When the surf allows possible we will run lessons form Praa Sands. Please enter your lesson location preference when making the booking for us to locate your lesson at Praa Sands where possible.

How far is it between Gwithian and Praa Sands?

Gwithian and Praa Sands are just 20-30 away from each other.

How long are the lessons?

All 1-on-2 private surf lessons are 2 hours long from the point the lesson starts on the beach.

Is the equipment provided?

Full equipment hire is included as part of your beginner surf lesson. All of our equipment is kept to the highest standards and is no more than 2 years old.

What if I have to cancel my booking due to COVID-19

If your holiday is cancelled due to a surf school closure or you’re personally impacted by COVID-19, we’re pleased to offer free cancellation and a full refund.

Alternatively your lesson will be valid for 12 months from booking so you are welcome to reschedule your booking to a later date. This can be done through your online account.

What is the youngest age to learn how to surf?

The youngest age to join a group lesson without parent assistance is 8 years old. Children aged 6-7 years old can join the group lessons but must be assisted by a non-surfing adult. Children 4 years and older can book onto our private lessons.
